Humanist Fellowship of San Diego
Code of Conduct
Location: Balboa Park, San Diego
When: Saturdays
The Humanist Fellowship of San Diego exists to foster thoughtful conversation, friendship, and community grounded in reason, compassion, and mutual respect. To help create a welcoming and constructive environment, all participants agree to the following:
1. Be Respectful
Treat all participants — members, guests, passersby, and those with differing views — with courtesy and dignity.
2. Disagree Thoughtfully
Debate ideas vigorously, but never attack individuals. Critique arguments, not people.
3. No Harassment
Harassment, intimidation, threats, persistent unwanted interaction, or discriminatory remarks will not be tolerated.
4. Assume Good Faith
Enter discussions with the assumption that others are participating sincerely, even when you strongly disagree.
5. Keep It Voluntary
No one is obligated to continue a conversation they do not wish to have. Respect boundaries immediately and without argument.
6. No Proselytizing or Aggressive Recruiting
Friendly discussion is welcome. Persistent or aggressive attempts to convert, pressure, or recruit others are not.
7. Respect Public Space
We meet in a public park. Follow park rules, avoid obstructing walkways, and engage passersby respectfully and responsibly.
8. Keep It Civil and Safe
No physical altercations, threatening behavior, or reckless conduct. We are here to build community, not conflict.
9. Substance Responsibility
If alcohol is present, consume responsibly. Illegal drugs are not permitted.
10. Protect the Welcoming Atmosphere
We aim to be an inclusive space for people of all backgrounds, identities, and beliefs. Behavior that undermines that inclusivity may result in being asked to leave.
Enforcement
Event organizers reserve the right to address concerns and, if necessary, ask individuals to leave in order to preserve a safe and respectful environment.
